Rebuilding the Parent-Teacher Partnership (Part 1 of 3)
It’s important for parents and teachers to work together in a positive way. Unfortunately, this relationship has been damaged by today’s discipline which over-focuses on incidents and consequences. Parents and teachers constantly discuss what children have done wrong and what punishments should be applied. This creates a very negative relationship and quickly leads to blaming and criticizing.
To get the relationship back on track, only discuss incidents which are serious or repetitive. Then, instead of agreeing on punishment, agree on a plan for avoiding similar problems in the future. In other words, agree on what you will teach children, not how you will punish children.
