"This is Boring!"
This is a comment that parents and teachers frequently hear from children these days. Children seem to feel that everything should be interesting, even entertaining. They reject jobs that are tedious and mundane. Unfortunately, many experts go along with this and recommend that you design every job in such a way that children will want to do it.
Nonsense! Discipline is about preparing children for the real world, and the real world is full of boring jobs. It’s important for children to learn how to do these jobs, not just the ones they feel like doing. It’s the skill of perseverance. Someday, when they get their first job, they will quickly find out that interest and enthusiasm only last for a few days. For instance, how many hamburgers do you have to grill before you lose interest?
So, make sure your children learn to do both the boring jobs and the interesting ones. Then, they will be ready for the real world.
