Problems with bed-wetting? (Referring to your kids, of course.)

A surprising number of children experience problems with bed-wetting, sometimes lasting until close to puberty. Not only is it embarrassing for them at home, it causes real emotional turmoil during sleep-overs and camping experiences. For some children, bed-wetting is the result of a medical problem. Hence, it is advisable to consult your family doctor regarding the problem. Other children have a problem because they go into such a deep sleep that they miss the warning signal from their brain. Their bed-wetting is neither deliberate nor careless. Here are a couple of ideas that may help. Try to prevent the problem by waking up your child a couple of times during the night and escorting him (or her) to the toilet. It means setting your alarm clock and getting yourself up as well but nobody ever promised that raising children would be convenient. If you get them up at the same time each night, their own brain will eventually pick up the routine. Then, they will get themselves up. Make certain that you limit your child’s fluid intake from dinner time on. Reassure your child that the problem will eventually go away. Let them know how pleased you will be when this finally occurs. Wanting to please you keeps them motivated. Finally, avoid using humiliation as a tactic. It’s a very powerful technique and may actually do the job. However, it creates other problems and can seriously damage your relationship with your child.
