It’s what you do, not what you say, that counts.

When you are teaching your children to do arithmetic, you show them how to answer the questions. When you teach them to work the telephone, make a bed properly, or set a table, you show them how. The simple fact is that children learn far more by watching us, than by hearing an explanation. The old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words is certainly true. Just remember that children are watching and learning all the time, not just when you are deliberately teaching a lesson. Hence, if you swear, so will they. If you lose your temper, so will they. Of course, there’s also the positive side. If you want your children to be courteous, make sure you are courteous around them. If you want them to share, then share. Think about the kind of children you want and then show them how it’s done.
