Kids can't get to sleep? Let them read

Usually, if you have a good bedroom routine for your children, they will fall asleep fairly quickly. However, all children will occasionally find it hard to get to sleep and there are a few children who always seem to have trouble. If you let them get out of bed and start playing again, this just makes the problem worse. Instead, set up a shelf of books next to their bed, attach a small reading light on the headboard, and give them permission to read. This will help them fall asleep and they will be improving their reading skills at the same time. You can put a time limit on the reading if you wish, but it usually isn't required. Remember to add new books by making regular visits to your local library.
