Remember last week’s gift? Here’s the other.
Along with the gift of time, give your child your love - but understand what this means. It’s not just about caring; it’s about caring enough to make your children do what they’re supposed to do. It’s about caring enough to insist they contribute to the family by doing chores and treat people with respect and courtesy. Don’t worry that your children might not love you if you put demands on them. Remember that when children make comments like, "I hate you Mom", they don’t actually mean it. What they mean is that they hate your job, especially the part of your job where you put restrictions on them and insist they do homework and chores. If you hear such a comment, just respond by confirming that you love them and then insist they follow whatever directions you gave them.
