Don’t Join the Rescue Squad

Every parent should be willing to defend their children against false accusations, but it’s important not to take it too far. Some parents constantly make excuses for their children, always suggesting that the problem must be someone else’s fault. It couldn’t possibly have been their little sweetheart who did something wrong. Be careful not to fall into this trap. Children must learn to be accountable for their actions. It’s a major part of learning responsibility. So, when your children make mistakes, teach them to accept ownership for their actions. Help them deal with the consequences and insist they make up for what they did. If you do this, your children will learn how to handle real life. But remember, if you make excuses for your children, then they will simply learn to make excuses for themselves.
