Spanking

Occasionally, you may find it necessary to punish a child so the child understands that "no means no". Resist the temptation to use spankings. This isn’t because it does a lot of psychological damage. Lots of adults will tell you that they were spanked as children and it didn’t do them any harm. Although this may be true, it’s still not a good idea and here’s the reason. Research has consistently shown that whether a child gets spanked, how long, and how hard, has very little to do with what the child did wrong. It has to do with how the adult’s day went. That’s why children are hardly ever spanked at 8:00 in the morning; they are spanked at 8:00 at night when the adult is exasperated. Also, there’s a lesson here for the children - when you’re frustrated, keep your hands off other people.
